Fernando Serpa

Vice President Sourcing & Procurement Latin America


Fernando is Vice President, Sourcing & Procurement Latin America at Walmart, based in Mexico. With over $486 billion in revenues in FY 2017, over 11,000 physical stores around the world, a growing electronic commerce business and over 2 million associates, Walmart has delivered on its mission of Saving People money so they can live better for over 50 years.

Fernando leads the team that leverages Walmart´s supply base and foot print in all product categories, working with Merchants to benefit of Walmart Latin America´s customers. He also leads the company´s initiative to leverage Fresh Food Sourcing across the US, Mexico, Canada and the UK.

In his previous role at Walmart, Fernando set up the Leverage and Exports teams in Global Sourcing in the US. He joined the company as the leader of Walmart International’s Global Branded Imports, partnering with merchants and suppliers to provide a competitive advantage to the International markets by enhancing assortment and lowering costs. From 2011 to 2013, Fernando was Walmart´s representative in the Consumer Goods Forum Operational Excellence Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Enactus Mexico.

Fernando joined Walmart in 2010. Prior to that, he worked for twenty years at Kraft Foods in Sourcing, Procurement and Supply Chain around the world. Starting with green coffee, Fernando set up and managed commodity and raw materials sourcing and origination networks in Latin America and Asia, Procurement operations in Europe and Latin America, took part in acquisitions, integrations and led outsourcing of key company activities.

Fernando also has experience in commercial banking, trade and foreign affairs. He has worked in North and South America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. A native Spanish speaker, he is fluent in English and French.
